Forget accent tables and elegant ottomans — most the kids we know think a living room’s true purpose is to serve as their giant toy trunk. Sound familiar? Since there aren’t many kids out there into bare bones minimalism, RealRooms has curated some fun and practical solutions to help organize + stylize their mini living space.
Our biggest tip: keep your design ultra-flexible. Kids have a habit of changing their minds (often!) so we love easy-to-remove vinyl stickers and temporary wall features that can be swapped out when they’re ready for something new. Chalkboard paint is another awesome way to inspire some creativity — or at the very least, a great way to list out their homework and chores.
For additional storage, we can almost guarantee our metal lockers will be more stylish than the ones they’re used to at school. A combination storage bench + coat rack is another great option — and it can be easily moved to the mudroom later on. Or maybe incorporate that toy bin into a wood grain bookcase for their favorite stories? Ask them to help you pick out a design (with a little help from mom or dad) and they’ll love it twice as much.
